Dan McQuay is founder and Chief Executive Officer of Business Information Technology Solutions (BITS), which was acquired by Cognosante in October 2016. BITS is a provider of IT services and solutions to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).
Dan founded BITS in July 2003 after a 20-year career in the United States Marine Corps. He enlisted in the Marines in 1978 and became a communication specialist working base and tactical information systems. In 1990, he received a commission through the Enlisted Commissioning Program (ECP). As a Marine Corps Officer, he supported many operations in Southwest Asia and the Pacific.
At the Naval Postgraduate School, he completed a Master of Science degree in Information Technology Management. Among other assignments, Dan served as Project Manager for the Marine Corps Manpower Operational Data store and deployed the first manpower web-based workflow application using web technologies to the Fleet Marine Force (FMF).
Dan retired from the Marine Corps in 1998 and joined Oracle Corporation, where he handled large enterprise application projects within the Defense Logistics Agency, Department of the Army, Marine Corps, and the Military Health System. In 2003, he left Oracle as Senior Practice Director to start BITS.
Dan also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Maryland, College Park, and is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP).
