As Director of Veterans Affairs and Defense Health for Cognosante, Scott Walter introduces innovative and modern health IT solutions that assist the Veteran (and their families) in the transition from Active Duty military to civilian life. He also assists in their introduction to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the benefits to which they are therefore entitled.
Scott has strong expertise in many areas, including health insurance marketplace, healthcare standards, informatics, and enterprise healthcare systems. He works to provide innovative and integrated approaches to solving the challenges of healthcare reform, with the ultimate goal of maximizing service and impact for the Veteran.
Scott joined Cognosante with over 20 years of commercial and Federal business development and contracting experience, including seven years with the United States Air Force (USAF). Most recently, he was the Director of Veteran Health Services at Truven Health Analytics. Prior to working at Truven, Scott was with the MITRE Corporation, where he managed the Veterans Affairs Central Office (VACO) Portfolio for VA’s Center for Enterprise Modernization (CEM), VA’s Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC).
Scott has a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science and History from Thomas Edison State University, and a Juris Doctor from Rutgers Law School.
In his spare time, Scott volunteers with the AbleGamers Foundation, which works and advocates on behalf of individuals with disabilities to increase the accessibility of video games and to achieve further inclusion by those who need special considerations.
