As Vice President & General Manager, Steve leads the strategy development, division growth, client engagement, and program execution to ensure the successful delivery of key programs within Cognosante’s Military & Veterans Health business unit.
Before joining Cognosante, Steve spent several years at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in various leadership positions, most recently as Deputy Director, Department of Defense (DoD)/VA Interagency Program Office. In this role, he led and managed the VA collaboration efforts to implement interoperability health data standards. Previously, Steve served as the Assistant Deputy Chief Information Officer for IT Project Management and Product Development in the Office of Information and Technology, where he led the strategic leadership and enterprise management of the VA’s system and application development portfolio providing world-class health care services and benefits to Veterans.
During his 22 years in the Army, LTC(R) Schliesman specialized in the acquisition and procurement of IT-centric systems. Later in his distinguished career, Steve served as the Project Director, Defense Communications Systems for Southwest Asia, where he led development and deployment of the IT network infrastructure across Iraq, Afghanistan, and Kuwait.
Steve has been widely referenced as a technical expert on the acquisition, implementation, and deployment of IT. He is the recipient of numerous awards and recognitions, including the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCES) leadership award, the Federal 100 award, and he recently received the 2017 Federal Health IT 100 recognition. Steve received a Bachelor of Environmental Design from the University of Colorado at Boulder and a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in Computer Resources and Information Technology from Webster University. He holds several IT certifications including that of Chief Information Officer (CIO).
