Cognosante Duo Leads Panels at Connect Summit

Cognosante’s Michael Lundie and Jim Joyce each led panels at the 2014 State Healthcare IT Connect Summit in Baltimore, MD, April 1-2.

Lundie, Cognosante HIE Practice Lead, led a discussion entitled “Bringing Data Alive Through Intelligent Health Information Delivery Systems” as part of the Innovator’s Roundtable at the Summit. The discussion focused on how innovative technology available today can help payers, healthcare providers, and caregivers, overwhelmed by the amount of data available, shift traditional paradigms to unleash and realize the value of data.

Joyce, Senior Vice President of Health Consulting Services, moderated a panel entitled “Examining Models for MMIS Re-Procurement.” The other panelists were Darin Hackman, Director IS, Missouri HealthNet; and Paul Brannan, Director of IT Project and Contract Systems Management at Alabama Medicaid.

The discussion investigated ongoing changes to Medicaid systems and to Medicaid operations. Traditional systems and replacement approaches are being re-examined and new strategies are being investigated to provide Medicaid solutions that integrate across state health and human services enterprises. This panel discussed the drivers for change and described new solution strategies under consideration for Alabama and Missouri procurements planned in 2015.

“I was able to discuss the state MMIS procurement strategies that Cognosante has been involved with in the last 5 years,” Joyce said. “The session had great participation by the audience that consisted of MMIS vendors looking to learn more about Missouri’s and Alabama’s procurement and by state management that are early in their procurement planning.”
